Spirodela polyrrhiza, commonly known as giant duckweed, is a floating aquatic plant ideal for aquarium use. It features large, oval-shaped fronds that are green on top with potential reddish undersides, and each frond has several roots. The plant thrives in nutrient-rich, calm waters, forming dense mats on the water surface. Ecologically, it provides habitat and food for small aquatic animals and helps improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients. 

In aquariums, Spirodela polyrrhiza can enhance the environment by offering cover and food for fish, aiding in nutrient cycling, and contributing to a balanced ecosystem. However, it may need regular management to prevent overgrowth.
